Thomas Jensen Obituary

Thomas Harvey Jensen, of Edson, Alberta, passed away on March 15, 2024, at the age of 83. Tom was born on April 21, 1940, in Olds, Alberta.

He is survived by his loving wife Gail, their children Kelly (Marsha), Tony (Michelle), Peter (Nadia), and Jacqueline (Craig), their grandchildren Zachary, Charlotte, Peter, Elliot, Emily, Leif, Dex, Zori, Georgia, and Miller. He leaves behind great-grandchildren Julia, Sophia, Savannah, Rebel-Mae and Rhys-Rae. He is also survived by his siblings Jim Jensen, Joanna Hill-Devine (Jim), and Carol Fogh. Tom was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Caroline Jensen, brother John Jensen and Grandchildren Mira and Emerson Jensen.

Tom served in the Navy from 1958 to 1961 on the HMCS Stettler before graduating from college for Architectural Drafting.

Tom was not only a dedicated businessman but a man with a great sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. His quick, dry wit brought joy and laughter to those around him. Tom also had a passion for reading, solitaire, Scrabble and enjoyed challenging his mind with crossword puzzles. He took long walks to pick mushrooms around the acreage at the McLeod River where his legacy, the family home, still stands. He devoted many years to its thoughtful construction.

As a successful entrepreneur, Tom ran WoodTech and Jensen Drafting Services in Edson from 1976 to 2004, specializing in drafting house plans, building homes and installing custom kitchen cabinets. Prior to that, he designed and built homes for Nu-West Homes and Built-Rite Homes in Calgary, Whitecourt, Victoria, and Nanaimo from 1965 to 1976. Tom's love for design and construction led him to manage the renovation and restoration of the Red Brick School and successfully design and oversee the construction of The Pick'n Lantern Inn (now Moose Creek Hotel). He also designed the original Edson Visitors Centre in Centennial Park, leaving a lasting impact on his community.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity and authenticity that will forever be remembered.

In honor of Tom's life, a Memorial will be held at the Edson Legion at 1pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
